Step 1

step1

Sponge on colors Using the sponge brush and some of the icing color that has been diluted with water, dab color onto the SweetMasterpiece stamp. Use yellow for the stars and moon. Use blue for all other guidelines.

Apply SweetMasterpiece Stamp Carefully place stamp in center of cake. Press fimly to get a good impression. Avoid movement of stamp from side to side as image is transferred to the cake surface.

Step 2

step2

Use Colors Start with the lightest colors and work toward the dark. Yellow first, with a small brush to fill in the stars and moon. Next place a few small dashes in the lower section to represent lights in the houses. Mix a tiny dab of red with some yellow to make orange. Place a tiny dot of orange in the center of the stars and in the crescent of the moon. Nowyou are ready for the sky!

Wash Your Brushes Before you begin the sky, clean your brushes with water. For the rest of the painting, it will be important to keep some of the colors from mixing. Keep in mind the color rules: Yellow + Blue= Green Green + Red = Brown (Gray)

Step 3

step3

Blue Starting with sky blue icing color, fill in the light areas of the sky using the larger brush. Thin with water to achieve lighter values. When the sky is filled in, go back and add the royal blue in short, choppy strokes to define swirls in the sky.

Violet Next apply the violet (working from light to dark). Use the violet to break up the sky with strokes and to define the lower area, just above the horizon.

Step 4

step4

Green Using the medium brush, apply green to cypress tree in the foreground. Short strokes will create branches of the tree.

Red If you look carefully again at VanGogh’s painting, you will see red on some of the houses in the town. Place a few dabs of red there to balance the color. Outline the cypress tree and add some strokes for branches and shading.

Step 5

step4

Black Using the smallest brush, apply strong black lines to the edges of the church and buildings. This will create contrast and define the foreground.

Complete your masterpiece Using the wooden stick scratch through the colors into the white frosting. This will add highlights, making the swirls and choppy strokes more effective.
